Market Street Sweets

Today I'm going to talk about a wonderful sweet shop in Charleston SC. It is called Market Street Sweets. My favorite confections here are the pralines. They are WONDERFUL!!!!! As you are walking down the street you can hear the ladies yelling "hot pralines" which you can get a sample of for free. There is also one in Savannah Georgia called River street sweets. They are also famous for their bear claws which I have not yet tried. They also serve many candies that you can find at the grocery so PLEASE try a praline!

The Sea Shack- Hilton Head Island (SC)

While I was in Hilton Head last summer we went to a wonderful seafood restaurant called the Sea Shack. It is very tiny and not by any means fancy. You have to get there early because is soon becomes packed. My mom had the grilled shrimp po' boy, my dad hand a fried seafood platter, and I had the grilled salmon. In previous visits
I have had the shrimp burger (not shown) and it is great. This place is great for kids because they can get simple fried seafood and parents can also get a fun and delicious meal.

Bro's Restaurant- Nashville....

<

Bro's is a great Cajun restaurant here in Nashville. They have homemade sausage, great gumbo, amazing po' boys, and wonderful deserts like the pineapple cobbler (shown here).
When I went I ordered a fried shrimp po' boy which comes on their fresh baked bread from Louisiana. I also had their gumbo which has a slight spice but not too much. This is a great place for kids because you can get simple, more kid friendly items, or spicier/more complex items for adults. They also have great daily specials. Bro's is a great place to eat!!!!!!

Guy Fieri in Nashville at Bro's Cajun Restaurant...

Here are a few photos from my dad and his friend, Mr. Cook, of the taping of "Diners, Drive Ins, and Dives". He got to be part of the audience, and we hope he gets on TV. I got a neat autographed picture of Guy! I will post a review of my own from Bro's very soon. Stay tuned.

Maggiano's (multiple visits)...

Welcome to my favorite restaurant in Nashville! It is called Maggiano's. It is a southern Italian restaurant with amazing food! There are two ways you can eat there. One way is to order ala carte off of the menu. Personally, I like eating family style. You can get two of anything on the menu(except chefs choice items)for each course, and it's all for the whole table to share. For your first course you get salads and appetizers. My family's favorites are the spinach and chopped salads and stuffed mushrooms and calamari. We ave sampled several other apps and salads, and they are all really good.

Now for the main course! You can pick a pasta and an entree. My favorite food EVER is one of the pastas. It is the chicken spinach manicotti! You might not think you would like it because it has spinach in it, but it doesn't matter because it is just AMAZING!!!!! I let my family decide on the other pasta because I don't care a lot as long as I get the manicotti! For an entree my personal favorite is the lemon and herb salmon. It depends on what mood I am in for the other entree.

The last course is DESSERT!!! I always get creme brulee and whatever else sounds good (the chocolate cake is excellent though).

Until next time,

Think beyond chicken fingers!

Shalimar November 2009...

One of my favorite restaurants is Shalimar. It is an Indian restaurant. There is something addictive about it. For an appetizer I get garlic naan bread. It is thin. It comes with some green sauce. I don't quite know what is in it, but I know it is good.
For an entree I get chicken Tikka Masala. This is the most addictive part of the meal. It comes with basmati rice, which is good for sopping up the yummy Tikka Masala sauce. The sauce is somewhat spicy, but it is so good. You can always order it on the mild side.
They have a unique drink there called a Mango Lassi. It's a deliciously smooth and creamy fruit drink. I'm usually so full that I don't want a big dessert. They give you a crunchy sesame candy after the meal, and it is really good and different.
The staff is very freindly and helpful.
I highly recommend that you give Shalimar a try soon.

Until next time, think beyond chicken fingers.
